Share your memory! Where were you when the Nisqually earthquake hit? Public Post

Where were you? KING/5 News is helping chart your memories on an interactive map of the moment the quake hit: 10:54 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2001. (Follow this link to see the map. Double-click to zoom, and click on a thumbnail to see the stories.)

Monday marks the tenth anniversary of the Nisqually earthquake, a 6.8 magnitude quake that struck Western Washington, and news station KING/5 is helping to share your memories. Just post where you were the moment the quake struck on Intersect and see your memory stream this weekend on KING5.com.

Posting your memory is easy. Just:

  • Sign up (it’s quick – we promise)
  • Tell a bit about what happened (just a headline is fine)
  • Put the time of the quake, 10:54 a.m. Feb. 28, 2001, in the Time field
  • Put where you were in the Place field (specific locations look great on the map)
  • Hit Publish. You’re done!

Once KING “borrows” your story, look for it on the KING 5 Nisqually Earthquake map. You might be surprised who else posted memories nearby.

Oh, and if you’re on Twitter, you can connect your account on the Account page to turn your headline into a tweet, and even include a hashtag! KING/5 suggests #nisqually.

My step son is 10 years old today, the earthquake shook him out 3 weeks early. Happy Birthday Caleb.

Oh no way! Was he born right on that day? You should post the story here so it’s mapped alongside other memories and KING can see it – how cool :)
